Collect Donations for Your Nonprofit

Are you looking to ask for donations on Facebook? Then there are two ways to do so:

Send supporters to a donation website of your choice

These tools are available to any nonprofit:

  • Page donate button: add a donate button to your Page header and collect donations through a website of your choice
  • Ads: add a donate button to ads and collect donations through a website of your choice

Drive supporters to donate directly on Facebook

We’ve recently added tools that allow nonprofits to collect donations directly on Facebook, so supporters don’t have to leave Facebook to give. See below:

  • Page donate button: add a donate button to your Page header and collect donations on Facebook
  • Post donate button: add a donate button to your Page posts and collect donations on Facebook
  • Live video donate button: add a donate button to live video and collect donations on Facebook

How to get access: US-based 501(c)(3) organizations with a verified Page can use Facebook donation tools and receive distributions if they apply and are approved by Facebook Payments. If your nonprofit has not applied, you could receive distributions through the Network for Good Donor Advised Fund if you are listed in GuideStar. Learn more about requirements and our partnerships.

Enable People to Fundraise for Your Nonprofit

In addition to collecting donations directly from people, you can also activate your strongest supporters to raise money for your organization. There are several tools you can share with your supporters to encourage them to fundraise on your behalf. See below:

  • Fundraisers: Fundraisers let people set up a dedicated page to raise money for your nonprofit from their Facebook community. They can use this page to share their personal story, tell others about your mission and rally around a fundraising goal.
  • Donate button in posts: People can add a donate button to their posts. The donate button can be attached to any post including video, photo or text.
  • Live video donate button: To make it easier to collect donations during a live video, people and now admins of verified Pages will be able to add a donate button directly to their live videos to raise money for a nonprofit.
  • Customized nonprofit landing pages: This is one destination where you can send people to create a fundraiser for your nonprofit, see existing fundraisers from other supporters, and learn how Facebook fundraisers work.

Availability: Supporters with a Facebook Profile can create fundraisers and add donate buttons to posts and live video. Nonprofits, to benefit and receive payment you must be:

  • A US-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a Verified Page, and your application approved to receive payments from Facebook Payments
  • OR, you must be listed on GuideStar to receive distributions from the Network for Good Donor Advised Fund.

Facebook works with GuideStar.org and Network for Good to make it possible for people to donate to more than 750,000 US 501(c)(3) charities. While all donations are processed by Facebook, we work with GuideStar to populate Facebook’s nonprofit database, and Network for Good’s Donor Advised Fund to disburse funds to nonprofits who have not signed up to collect donations directly on Facebook.

If you are a US-based 501(c)(3) organization listed on GuideStar, it’s likely your organization is automatically listed in Facebook’s nonprofit database and your organization can receive donations when supporters raise money on your behalf, through Network for Good’s Donor Advised Fund.

However, there are different features, fees and payment timing when you sign up to receive donations through Facebook Payments: you’ll get access to Facebook’s reporting tools, contact information for donors who opt-in to receive emails from your organization, and links to all of your fundraisers on Facebook. You’ll also be able to use the donate button to collect donations directly on Facebook.
